I do agree, and really wish I could leave mine open for all to use.
If I drank your water I'd be trespassing If I took your TV that would be theft.
If your door was closed, but not locked that would be breaking and entering I believe, even though it's not locked, I had to physically move something in my way. Maybe the law look on it that by scanning you are opening an unlocked door.
A free Wifi hotspot could be great in Atherstone - imagine - bringing life to the market square with business people tempted out by the sunny warm weather and the dozens of tables chairs outside all the bookshops and deli's pubs and coffee shops - the place could be buzzing
but with people like your friend snooping around would you want your bank/ employer/ council staff member checking personal and private details over a free Wifi connection?
take those people out of the equation and what would a free Wifi connection really be useful for - to stop off the A5 to check cinema times for Tamworth or Nuneaton - then use Google maps to get back on the A5

There will always be people to snoop. To be honest I don't think he goes to snoop, but the fact that he can snoop unhindered is quite scary.
This is why when the Atherstone area Forum Town Hub is set up it is vital that we get a secure network and that it is available in a safe place to physically use, otherwise there's no point to it.

Doesn't say how secure it is once your using it from others using it. When you log on to Mc Donalds I'm sure you get your own session, whereas that reads as if you're just logging on without getting any details off you.
Then we have the physical place where it will be available. Is it going to be available just inside the hub, or outside too. It's no good just putting it outside the hub, there's double yellow lines.
Should it be available all over the market square, or car park.
Do you think its worth the expense ?
