Yes, I've done it, I've actually found somewhere with worse town centre lights than Atherstone. .... Bedford. They too have the ridiculous situation of icicles suspended in mid air over the main street, theirs are worse though. They're straight plastic tubes of icicles and shorter too. Although they are blue and white so do have more colour and a contrast with each other.
On the plus side Bedford does have some nice colourful and christmasy edge of town lights.
Atherstone seems to have forgotten that the public and businesses helped raise money for lights on Station Street, South Street, Woolpack Way, Ratcliffe Street. They were handed over in trust on the understanding that they'd maintain, repair or replace them, not run them until they were dead, bend them up by using cowboy companies and then flog them off, hoping that they won't be missed. They're NOT the town councils to sell.
I've offered to repair them countless times but get no answer. Every year I get told they're being repaired this year, but they never are. All we get is cheap tat. A fraction of the cost of the lights that were up. 3 or 4 of which were new the last year they went up. Where are they ? no one seems to know. No one seems to care, we have icicle lights now that look classy. No glam, no glitz, no santa for kids, just as long as it looks classy like Leamington and Hinckley.
I very much doubt that either just has cheap icicle lights strung across the street.
