Did you know that Atherstone had its very own steam engine named after it. Well Atherstone Hunt to be precise but Atherstone nevertheless. If you'd like a bit of it and have £3700 to spare you could buy the right hand fox that adorned this marvellous engine .... ORIGINAL BRASS FOX as carried by Gresley designed LNER class D49 “Hunt” class 4-4-0 № 214 “THE ATHERSTONE.,” named after the hunt based in the Rugby area. Built by the LNER at Darlington in January 1934, the loco spent its entire life in the North East. In BR days as 62752, it was allocated to Starbeck from where it was withdrawn in July 1958. The loco was cut up at Darlington works a month later. The fox is the original LNER “smooth fur” type with letter “R” (indicating this was the right hand fox) and the number “214” are clearly stamped in the back. 19½” nose to tail, brass lightly polished only, the back in original condition. www.sheffieldrailwayana.co.uk/catalogues/0906/main.htm
