What an absolutely fantastic evening people had that turned out for this superb event, well done to all involved. I hear that the early evening was well attended until a rain shower scared people off slightly but more came out later on including me, glittering disco lights and music filled Atherstones market square and escaped down to long street enticing people up to find out what was going on. The Stage was a truck, the entertainment a very good disc and an even better singer, acompanied by best of all two gorgeous young dancing girls, with an assortment of ever changing costumes. Whilst enjoying the music chat and great atmosphere that had decended on Atherstone's market square I decided that I was hungry, so had a pork and stuffing batch(roll) from the hog roast. I didn't try the chocolate fountain but decided to go and get a pint from the market tavern and watch that singer some more. Despite it being a tad chilly the square was quite busy, lots of family's and children, I'd say about 300 when I was there. The kids loved the party games that the dj put on. I'm sure the weather kept people away though and if it had been warmer there would have been a lot more there. Well done to every body who helped, If I can get a list of who did I'll post it on here because they deserve a mention, not only did they bother to go but actually helped.

As usual you always get one that want to kick a fuss up about an event that is well put together which this was, usually someone who pretends he's something he's not. The event was as well publicised as it could be considering the late planning of it. Strangely the subject came up on the night with a couple of friends of mine. The girl said she hadn't seen it advertised they could have advertised it better, he said it was advertised, there's posters all down the street in the shops. technical point, dickens night wasn't always on the last saturday of november, we decided to fix it to the last week in November when we had the first christmas light meeting, Me and geoff mainly as a previous year had ended up last but one saturday and it was felt that it was too early based on feedback we'd got and also some continuity was needed. It was put to the vote and all agreed, Dickens night has been going in it's present form for over 12years and close on if not 20 years in the form of an extended christmas shopping night. Christmas lights have been up since 85 with exception of 2002. One dickens night had to be cancelled because of bad snow one year too, can't remember which year though but all the phone lines came down, the electric went off and the water went off. A bus crashed in to the house near the regal and got lodged against the chippy the snow was that bad.

Being quite young at the time that was a fun year. I got stuck in a bunker full of snow on the golf course. And some other time there was that much snow it had completly covered a tree up there and bent it over, walked over it not knowing it was there and it sprung up and hit us all. There wasn't any water either I seem to remember as we had a bath full of snow so it melted and we had to boil it on the gas hob (the gas was still on). Some kind of water tanker or underground pump/tap was put in near the memorial hall wasn't it to as it was off for so many days? not sure about that one though.

Glad someone remembers, everyone else I ask can't remember it happening let a lone what year. You'd think they'd remember having to melt snow to get water wouldn't you, It not exactly a normal everyday thing you'd do to make a cuppa. If you're wondering why I went off on a tangent it's because dpickard criticised this event elsewhere and also it was stated that dickens night is always on a the last saturday of November. Looking back now I don't know why I even bother to respond here or there, some people just aren't worth the effort. I look forward to this event happeneing again next year.
