Have they wasted our money replacing kerbs that didn't need to be replaced? Why was any of the work necessary? Lots of people can't see why it was done so I found out. I was told there wa two main reasons for the the work 1 To comply with dissablity laws it's necessary to install dropped kerbs and tactile paving, thats the bumps paving slabs so that the blind can feel the entrance to the dropped kerb.
2 New busses now lower themselves when stopped at a bus stop so that they are level with the kerb, but for this to work the kerbs need raising slightly. To raise the kerbs they needed to widen the stand area to get the height. This meant more drainage was needed down the centre of the stand. New illuminated signage and a crossing were also added.

Looked like they were building a whole new bus station the few times I saw it. can't believe thats all they did. wow!
And buses have ben lowering down to the curb even on Atherstone routes since the late 90's so why the need to change the standing area now, they have worked fine for ages havnt they?

It looked it, I couldn't believe it either, I even took pics at the time to prove it. suppose it took a while to take the island up, take some of the road up, put new kerbs in, raise the island, put new drainage in and relay the island. Dunno if theres over a month of work there though. I can remember when the toilets were refurbed, about 1990 it took 3 months to do that.
I'd guess that the work eventually had to get done for the same reason as the kerbs, dissability discrimination act. borough and county never do anything until forced to do they.
