FEARS Atherstone Town Football Club could be booted out of their Sheepy Road home have been allayed by North Warwickshire Borough Council.
Rumours have been circulating for some time that the Adders may need to find a new home to allow the authority to reclaim its land and redevelop it for housing.
To the extent that a petition was recently circulated among fans and numerous calls and emails were made to the Herald.
However, talks have been held between the Midland Combination Premier Division club and the council confirmed there were no plans in the short term to oust the Adders from their spiritual home.
A spokesperson for the council, said: "North Warwickshire Borough Council owns the freehold of the football ground site and since 2004 has leased the land and its facilities to Atherstone Town Football Club on an annual basis for a peppercorn rent.
"It has always been the council's intention to ensure that the site remained available for redevelopment in the future as residential housing when the need arose.
"While the Sheepy Road ground was only ever intended to be a temporary home for Atherstone Town Football Club, the council currently has no plans to develop the site.
"When officers met recently with the chairman of the club they were able to assure him that its use by Atherstone Football Club will continue for the immediate future and to confirm that the council was always happy to meet with and advise representatives of Atherstone Town Football Club to enable it to secure its future through its own efforts – as set out in its 2004 Mission Statement."
