A planning application is going through at present for a new school to be built on the fields in front of the all weather sports pitch.

County Council is processing this application, which is also put forward by the County Council.

Numerous people have objected to the design of the school, the location, access, parking, and demolition of the old school including the quads.

However County Council seem to be holding us to ransom over the new plan. If we object the school gets delayed and put to the bottom of the list. If we say nothing we get a school, but a sub standard one that is already too small, a dangerous one with poor access, in the wrong location, and of a poor design.

Atherstone needs a school for the future, rather than one just for now, just because it's better than the one that we have.

It's not about comparing what we have now with what we will get, it's about comparing what we will have with what we could have had. If we accept compromises just to get it built then we end up with a sub standard building that isn't fit for purpose. That will just be a repeat of history, as that is what happened with the old building. As soon as it was built it had portacabins on the grounds.

It is a sad day today. I discovered that permission has been granted for the new QE school building.
An ugly prefab building that fits in with nothing around it.
A school building that isn't fit for purpose.
A building that is in the wrong place.
A location that doesn't make best use of the land and will leave the plot of land where the existing school is at the moment redundant and useless.
It can't be built on because sports England insist on an equal amount of green space being freed up as they're building on, which wouldn't be the case if it were built on the old school.
A scheme that will create a dangerous pedestrian entrance.
A scheme that will create a dangerous Vehicle entrance.
A design and size of school that is already too small.
A plan that will destroy the architecturally interesting and important quads with their corner towers.

This is a repeat of History, they're building a school in the wrong place, which isn't suitable and is too small. They're subjecting future generations to a repeat of what we endured at the lower school, portable classrooms and a lack of facilities.

Shame on all of those people that supported it and took the trouble to write in. 160 of you.
Shame on the Town Council.
Shame on the County Council for making the highly questionable planning decision. A council deciding on a planning application for the same council. Very dodgy.

Well done NWBC for having the sense and guts to object.

All of the sensible people should write to their MP and ask why a scheme has been forced through, with threats of us not getting a new school unless we accept plans as is, that is entirely unsuitable for our town, and why it has been done with no consultation.
