OUTDOOR types are being invited to get filthy in a fun and friendly obstacle course being held in North Warwickshire next weekend. The Merevale Estate in Atherstone is to be the location of a Mud Obstacle Course on Saturday. The first wave of participants will set off at 9.30am and then every 15 minutes thereafter, with a 5km and 10km option. The event is being put on by British Military Fitness, (BMF) and marks the eighth such session in an annual major series. Voted the UK's 'Best Trail Race' at 2014's Running Awards, the Major Series is the UK's most friendly, where participants will get to enjoy the grounds of the Merevale Estate, with the physical tester featuring more than 40 different obstacles and promising to be a muddy and energetic affair. "There are two courses; a 10km for the more advanced racers or a 5km race which is perfect for those new to the sport," said a spokesperson for BMF. "What sets the Major Series apart from other obstacle course races is the British Military Fitness instructors, who have not only designed the course, but are stationed around the obstacles to encourage and help you. "There will be an array of muddy bogs, thick woods and river crossings that surround the park, as well as the favourite giant slide, cargo net clambers and the infamous barbed wire crawl."
