A BOMB disposal squad was despatched to a home in Atherstone over fears about a WWI artillery shell found inside. Members of the Royal Logistic Bomb Disposal Team were called into action in Sheepy Road. It followed a call from residents who were concerned about an old shell that they had had for a number of years. Officers from Atherstone Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) explained to the News that the couple, who have not been identified, saw a similar item on television and feared the one they had, sat on their windowsill, was live. They immediately called the police and Sergeant Mitch Oakley and Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Mo Yaqub responded. The pair then called for back-up from the bomb squad but, fortunately, the shell was declared safe by specialist officers. The WWI item was returned back to the owners and now the SNT members are attempting to find out more information about it and have made contact with Staffordshire Regiment Museum NuneatonNews
