Atherstone's Heritage centre in the Market Square will close its doors to the public for the final time on dickens night. Funding has not been forthcoming to enable the centre to stay open. Rental costs of units are high and landlords are unwilling to contribute by giving a peppercorn rent. It's a great shame that is come to this, and I believe it will have a detrimental affect on the Booktown projects success. It was one thing touristy that was actually in the town and had many tourism visitors go in to find some history of our great town. The Heritage group will continue with other projects including possibly an internet site, but an internet site can't be viewed by visitors that are actually in the town can it!. Please pop in on dickens night and give thanks for the interesting exhibitions put on over the years and to the volunteers who have given hours of free time to man the centre for visitors.
