Sunshine and smiles greeted Cherie Blair when she visited Atherstone Early Years Centre this week.
Staff and children at the £1.7 million centre welcomed the eminent lawyer and Prime Minister's wife, who was keen to visit the revamped facilities in Kings Avenue.
"Juggling is a major challenge for all mothers and children's centres such as this one serve a very special purpose in providing a safe and happy environment for children while mum works," said Mrs Blair, a working mum with four children herself.
"By valuing the care of our children everybody understands we are caring for the next generation and just how important that is," Mrs Blair added.
Accompanied by North Warwickshire MP Mike O'Brien and Warwickshire County Councillor Anne Forwood, Mrs Blair spent time chatting with staff, parents and grandparents and playing with the children.
"Cherie's visit is like the icing on the cake for all the hard work and money that has been invested here," explained Helen Hurst, the centre's manager since September 2000.
Atherstone Early Years Centre reopened in December 2005 revealing a £1.7 million makeover for a service which has been available to parents and children in the town since the 1940s.
