Hello 3 story offices and houses.
The londis shop and petrol station in the long street hollow will close this coming Friday for the very last time.
Several shop staff will lose their jobs when it closes, some of which have worked there many years.
The site is to be cleared, and replaced by a mix of offices flats and houses to the front forming a 3 story high block in line with the opticians just off the pavement. It will certainly block light to flats in tannery close that residents are used to.
two blocks further back and adjacent to the conservative club gardens , and another two parallel with welcome street will fill the centre of the site and a block along south street will continue the existing flats.
I'll have a 3 story house right outside my window, they'll be able to look right into my flat and bedroom, causing me and other residents in welcome street, long street and south street a great loss of privacy. Despite this plus concerns over parking, visitor access refuse access, external bins right outside my window, loss of a local shop, change of use of the site from retail to residential (a town centre site that will shrink the town centre more, cutting what few shops are left up this end off, including one of the most picturesque pubs in the town) North Warwickshire Planning has passed the application. Such a shame , this site could have been used for aldi which would have been a much more suitable location freeing the site Aldi is on for a shopping centre. It could have been a drive through restaurant, retaining the shop and petrol station with residential at the back and to south street.
This will also be the 2nd petrol station to be lost, 3 counting the old heron on the A5. Leaving us with just two. There is no late shop at this end of town now, we have to go to the co-op or Ratcliffe road. It was a well used shop by all ages, it will be greatly missed.
The amount of development of houses and flats in this town is out of control.
Most recent edition is Camellia court,at the rear of the glass shop in long street. knick named chlamydia court due to the teens going round there to have sex. Another sardine development in a back yard with no parking.
Plus more to come with the phoenix yard development
Ridiculous thing is that a lot of these are still empty. Aragon property is always advertising flats.
Absolute madness that this government insists that we need all these new eco towns.
