Visitors and the people of Atherstone are being encouraged to walk this way, with the help of a brand new town trail.
The trail, which starts in the Market Square, leads people around the town identifying buildings of historic interest and pointing out notable architectural features. The leaflet is packed with interesting facts telling the story of Atherstone's past and how things have changed over the years.
From the marking out of the burgage plots in the 13th century and the importance of the town as a trading centre during the 1700s, to the hatting industry and more recently the town's emergence as a booktown - Atherstone has seen many changes. It also tells the stories of some of the people, who lived and worked in the town, including William Eyre who died a bankrupt after spending so lavishly on Beech House and Jane Stafford whose shop many people will remember as being a time capsule of fashion, hats and jewellery.
