Terrorist plane plot

Police say they have disrupted a major plot to blow up as many as 20 planes over UK and US cities with explosive devices smuggled aboard as hand luggage. Police are have arrested 20 people in London - the culmination of a covert counter-terrorist operation lasting several months.

Big queues were building up at UK airports as passengers trying to board international flights were not being allowed to carry on normal hand luggage.

would have been used and could therefore be missed during the x-ray screening of such luggage.

Sky News' Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said he had been told the threat was imminent and those arrested were mainly young, British-born Asian men.

He said the plan allegedly involved people boarding flights and detonating explosives on planes over UK and US cities.

The Home Secretary John Reid said the alleged plot was a "major threat" to bring down a number of planes.

The Home Office's level of security - indicating public risk - has been raised from 'severe' to 'critical'.

The swoop followed a pre-planned intelligence led operation by the Met's anti-terrorist branch and security service.

A police statement said: "This is a major operation which inevitably will be lengthy and complex. We will provide further information as soon as possible."

There are lengthy queues at most airports with many domestic flights cancelled.

Flights scheduled into Heathrow were cancelled - apart from those already in the air.

Flights to Britain from some continental cities were also cancelled.

Can you believe this is being called a homegrown threat?
These animals have nothing what so ever to do with us Brits.
They may have been born here but that is it.
They do not consider themselves English or British.
They are quite simply extremist Muslim terrorist.
They give normal law abiding Muslims a bad name as people in general will always tar with the same brush.
We are now on high alert and maximum security everywhere, shares have took a nose dive and all because these people (I say people loosely) think they can try to kill innocent people in the name of religion.
I am a catholic, but some times I seriously believe all religion should be banded, as it is responsible for so many wars since the beginning of time.
Yugoslavia, Palestine, Israel, Turkey, Iran, Cyprus, and Ireland to name just a hand full of Countries torn apart by religion.
Millions have died in the name of religion, what God from any religion wishes blood really spilt in his/her name?
What ever your religion you cannot agree with the killing of innocent people.
The religions themselves are not the problem, it’s the murderous psychopaths that hind behind them.

The enemy is within, the battle won't be abroad, it won't be that country against this, the fight will be in this country, the invasion happened years ago. Not racist, but fact based on several recent terrorist acts by 'homegrown' extremists.
Your trapped in your country with killers, a bit like being trapped in a plane full of killer snakes.

Religion... religion is what you believe, my ex was bought up strict roman catholic, according to her religion everything we did was against her religion. I'm C of E through choice because it has less of these silly rules and beliefs that control people and tell people to kill in the name of god.
I've actually got some sort of Islam program on tv in the background now, a discussion about evolution versus creation and can the two both be true, can evolution be in the Curran(sp)
I'm not sure there is a god, I often think that god was created by different countries leaders to keep the people of that country in line. I often get messages on hot or not and other sites from girls looking for 'a good god fearing man', as if a god fearing man will treat them better. They fear god so they kept in line with what they were told god says they must do. Each country had it's own god, or each leader had it's own religion. Each country protects it's own because in order for it to work, the people must believe in it. Therefore only one religion can ever be right.
In this country thats no longer the case, probably helped by the history of this country and introduction of C of E, and most recently becoming multi cultural. Most of us believe in our religion and follow it as much as we need to give us as much security in life as we need. Some need to go to church each week, some never go to church yet still claim to be C of E like me.
All this is because their religion or some choose to interpret it as saying that all other religions are wrong and all those that follow other religions should die.
Muslims need to be re-taught that as long as they follow their religion then it's ok, if other wish to follow a catholic religion then thats up to them, and they will be punished by Allah and it's not ok for them to do it.

If your going to allow people into this country that only believe in one god, your going to get this though until this new way of thinking is accepted.
