Scarecrows of the Round Table
Taken from the Witherley Scarecrow Festival Programme...
On behalf of the village of Witherley and the scarecrow festival committee, I am pleased to welcome all out visitors to the fifth annual Scarecrow Festival. We hope that you will enjoy your visit.
Originally the Scarecrow Festival was held to raise funds for much needed building restoration works on the beautiful St Peter's Church. In 2004 the format was changed slightly, and the event has become a vehicle for raising money for various charities. Our main beneficiary is the warks. and northhants, Air Ambulance Service, which receives a guaranteed minimum of 50% of our profits, with the balance being divided between various local charities and village organisations, including the church. "Our" Air Ambulance is the busiest in the country and performs an immensely valuable service, funded entirely by donations. It has attended several times locally.
My thanks go to our hard working committee for their wonderful support, and our thanks go to various sponsors, to local press and media for giving us coverage, to many volunteers who give so generously of their time and skills, to all in the village for their patience and to you the Visitors for coming along and supporting us. I trust that this will be a very happy and successful Festival weekend for us all. (which it was)
