Found this article on the council web site. I actually collect novelty lighters and so does one of my neighbours, I object to all of these laws that are brought in. If we banned everything that killed 5 kids in a year we'd have nothing that isn't banned. Kids shouldn't have access to lighters or matches and I don't see why I should be told I can't have access to novelty lighters just because parents can't act responsibly
Novelty Lighter Ban Seeks to Protect Children

Child appealing novelty lighters are to be banned, Warwickshire County Council Trading Standards Service has announced.
From 11th March 2007 it will become an offence to manufacture in or import into Europe novelty lighters, and any disposable lighters that are not child resistant.
It is expected that after a period of twelve months the ban will be extended to the sale of such lighters to consumers.
Under the ban, lighters that resemble cartoon characters, guns, toys, vehicles, or animals, or that play music, have flashing lights, moving objects, animated effects or other entertaining features will be amongst those prohibited.
Mark Ryder, Head of Warwickshire Trading Standards Service said:
"According to Department of Trade and Industry figures, each year 5 people are killed and 220 injured in fires that have been started by very young children playing with lighters. This change in the law is designed to make lighters less appealing to children and harder for them to operate. We believe it could lead to a significant fall in the number of deaths and injuries caused through lighter misuse."
Warwickshire Trading Standards Service is the body that enforces the law with respect to lighters in the County.
Information and advice guides will be distributed to retailers, prior to the introduction of the ban.
