Road tax petition

This petition against Road tolls was open until midnight. I'm against such charges as I think it will do little to help us the public. With no alternatives to vehicles, poor public transport, roads being congested by introduction of un-needed speed limits, cameras, chicanes, speed bumps etc I don't see how it can possibly make any difference to us apart from our pockets.
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Scrap the planned vehicle tracking and road pricing policy.

We're also putting a great deal of effort into improving traffic flows - for example, over 1000 Highways Agency Traffic Officers now help to keep motorway traffic moving.

But all the evidence shows that improving public transport and tackling traffic bottlenecks will not by themselves prevent congestion getting worse.

What a load of garbage!, this government is creating the bottle necks.

• Lower and lower speed limits
  
• more and more camera's and talivans parked in illegal places causing people to slow up more than they need to
  
• DE classifying trunk roads including the A5 Because the the TOLL road runs parallel
  
• more and more roundabouts chicanes speed bumps and 20 zones to slow traffic up, therefore causing congestion and blocking roads up

If I tell you that one mile of new motorway costs as much as £30m, you'll have an idea of the sums this approach would entail.

Ye right tony, thats up to, but you don't say where that mile was built and what infrastructure was involved. Also thats NEW motorway, not upgrading our existing roads of which a lot have the land already available to be widened or were wider but got reduced by the government to cause congestion.

This could mean that those who use their car less, or can travel at less congested times, in less congested areas, for example in rural areas, would benefit from lower motoring costs overall. Those who travel longer distances at peak times and in more congested areas would pay more.

This will mean that those who don't really need their car won't end up paying, The long distant drivers that drive as a job will end up paying, Driver that deliver the goods to hundreds of thousands of businesses and shops all over the country. Those cost EXTRA costs will have to be paid for by the businesses and the businesses will recover their costs by passing the charges on to the public. THE PUBLIC WILL PAY IN THE END NOT ONCE BUT TWICE.
