Press Release from Atherstone Town Forum...
All,
It is with regret that I will have no option but to resign the position of Chairman of Atherstone Town Forum with almost immediate effect (as I also cannot make the meeting next Tuesday) but certainly with effect by a stand-down/handover time of the second Tuesday in October (9th - being Forum meeting night).
As you all know I have been hanging onto the position 'by the skin of my teeth' for some months and now it has become untenable for me to continue, without it affecting both my personal and business life.
As mentioned, I have obviously attempted to hang onto the position for as long as humanly possible, so that I could see through the workings of the Hub/Thatch Project and give Gill the support she requires for the conclusion of the Parish Plan but I am afraid (despite the sleepless nights worrying) I cannot maintain the level of support I wish to provide the town against my personal responsibilities.
I have enjoyed immensely the three years I have spent Chairing the Forum. I feel we have made a difference to the Town and I can pass on to any new found Chair Person a Town Group that holds some weight by the very nature of the support of the fine Atherstone Town people and local independant groups that support it - without all of whom, the Forum would not be in the position it is now!
I do not intend on disappearing into the night, quite the opposite. Most of you will know that I am a 'do-er' and I will continue to help Ray Jarvis with the Dickens Night events (which is where this all started having been press-ganged by my mentors along the way; Geoff Taylor and Gill & Martin Davies), help with the Market Square events, maintain the Town and area Alcohol (premises) Food and Performance Licence (making that available to any of the groups/individuals that need it) and hope to give help and support to whomever the town people decide to take my place.
Finally, I would like to thank the rest of the Forum committee, Yvonne, Michael and Joanne and to Atherstone Town Council for their help and support along the way. I urge you all to continue with the projects already in motion; including the need for youth representation on the committee and the agreed proposal to look for funding and options of running and maintaining a Local Atherstone Newspaper/Periodical, as well as those major projects already mentioned and highlighted by the Draft Parish Plan.
As I cannot make Tuesday's meeting I will speak with Yvonne to see if she is happy to Chair but will schedule October's meeting to be an EOM for elections to the position. Please have any nominations to me/the committee ASAP!
Any further business for Tuesday's meeting will need to be forwarded to me ASAP also.
Kind regards and thanks to all!
Peter
