Plenty of fish the dating site that recently hit the news headlines twice, once because a member was murdered in Manchester news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Facebook-Fugitive-George-Appletons-Car-Found-As-Police-Probe-Clare-Wood-Murder-In-Salford/Article/200902215220594 and the second for a girl bragging that she'd bedded 200 men from dating sites. www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/150070/Bar-girl-bedded-200-men-after-surfing-web-for-sex-with-strangers.html is at the centre of a scam allegation by its members.
The site which claims it is 100% free, and uses the slogan 'put your credit cards away' has recently started charging for a membership upgrade which basically consists of a yellow blob on profile searches and a 'serious member' badge on their profile.
Overnight a large amount of people suddenly appeared to have 'signed up' for the upgrade but when members did some investigative emails they discovered that the site had given the upgrade away.

Hey did you pay for that gold star / serious member thingy on your profile ? The reason I ask is, I am reading in the forum its a s c a m by the site owner. He is giving away all these serious profile memberships to women, to try to sucker men into thinking women are paying for this to go get the men to pay for it.
I thought hmmm interesting, so I just did a search, ages 18 to 99 within my zip code, that brought up 40 pages of women, 114 had the gold star / serious member thingy on their profile, do the exact same search, female looking for male, and not the 114 show up but 5 men show up in 40 pages. Those 5 that have it probably fell for the trick.
I dont really think women are so serious that 114 paid for it, and only 5 men paid. This guy is crooked. What a s c a m to pull.
I am going to email some other women and see if they paid for it. Doug

Plenty of fish admin continue to ignore all emails on the subject and won't confirm if members do get the upgrade wether they'll get a refund if Admin deem them to be unfit for dating. Plenty of fish are well known for deleting members for rule breaking even if the members weren't aware that they were breaking a rule or if Admin view a comment as being meant in a different way into which they took it.
This is clearly misleading as members labelled as serious may not be serious members and may just be looking for sex.Members that do pay may lose their money if their account is deleted.
