TNT workers staged a march today over recent bonus cuts. The March of around 150 people went around the Market square and to TNT house in Long Street where Employees hoped to be able to put their feelings over the cuts over to management. However no one from TNT made themselves available. Cuts were made to employees wages as part of a cost cutting program across TNT which they call 'lean'. Bonuses for finishing the sort earlier were cut and mean at least £80 less per week for most employees.
Sub contractors also recently lost out when TNT made them quote for regular routes that some had done for 25 years since TNT operations started at Atherstone. Many local transport companies were undercut by a company that quoted for large amounts of routes, putting local jobs at risk. Employees said that experience and commitment to TNT seem to count for nothing.
A spokesman said that a dummy ballot had been taken last week and the majority were for trike action, a further official ballot will take place next week.
TNT responded by saying that they were unaware the action was taking place or why they'd want to do so.

TNT workers planning protest over pay cuts Sep 25 2009 Ic Coventry HUNDREDS of workers at delivery firm TNT will stage a protest rally next week against pay cuts which union leaders claim are crippling the workforce. About 400 employees at the parcel delivery company will march through Atherstone town centre on Monday, before demonstrating outside the firm’s headquarters in Long Street. It is claimed that full-time staff are losing more than £400 a month –which could amount to a reduction of around £5,000 a year from their salary. Union leaders claim the decision was made in January to reduce pay, but after months of negotiations the first cuts only came into force last month. Paul Davies, national officer for Unite, claims the company is exploiting the recession for their own gains – at a huge cost to its workers. He added: “No workman or woman can afford to lose this much money, it is a massive drop in pay. The firm is taking advantage of the current economic climate to justify making pay cuts. “The company made the announcement in January and there have been months of negotiations. "The demonstration is to show the company that we are not happy with these huge cuts to employee’s pay.” Union leaders also claim there is a wrangle over bonus pay, which has been scrapped this year. The march will start in Atherstone town centre – which will include workers from both Atherstone and Kingsbury – and will continue to the headquarters where a petition will be handed over to bosses at the firm. Union leaders will also inform bosses of their intention to ballot for strike action – which could cause major disruptions to the firm’s Christmas deliveries. A spokesman for TNT said: “We have not been made aware of any protest action involving any of our employees. “We enjoy an excellent working relationship with Unite and prior to that with its predecessor the Transport and General Workers Union. Unite have not contacted us on this matter.” iccoventry.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100localnews//tm_headline=tnt-workers-planning-protest-over-pay-cuts%26method=full%26objectid=24779705%26siteid=92746-name_page.html#story_continue
