I've been passed a message that was originally sent to the bedworth facebook group, STOP Bedworth Fire Station from shutting down...
Message from SOS supporter Keith Kondakor,
Investigation into Fire Cuts in Nuneaton & Bedworth,
I attended the 2 public meetings about the fire cuts in Nuneaton & Bedworth. The information presented seemed to hide what was going to happen and was different at each meeting.
I have since made a freedom of information request, and had a long phone calls with both the author of the risk report and a manger of the fire service.
The callout statistics show that Bedworth is the 4th most called out fire station in Warwickshire. Bedworth units were called out more than all the other 6 stations planned for closure put together.
Now to what distorted facts were given.
Nuneaton was told it was we were to have 2 standard fire appliances, and gain the aerial unit and small fires unit. In reality it seems we will have 1 standard pump, 1 combined pump/ aerial unit and a small fires thing with just 2 crew (including driver).
Bedworth was told it would have an appliance in the town during peak fire hours of 2PM and 8PM. I have been told this is one of the Coleshill units! It seems they have to have two due to the oil depot at Kingsbury but can somehow park one in Bedworth for 6 hours a day. It seems this unit is used to allow them to claim response times on average only go up by 18 seconds.
The plan for Nuneaton and Bedworth is to sack 23 local fire-fighters and cover the south part of the area from Coleshill. They will have no local knowledge and lives could be lost. They have not modelled the time for 2nd unit to attend or the problems of engines already being called out. It seems impossible for the 16 fire-fighters at Coleshill to man engines in both Bedworth and Coleshill at the same time while giving 24 hour cover to Coleshill and Kingsbury oil depot. The council did all the modelling and the independent risk assessment just took this data. This risk assessment was a rush job and in 3 weeks could not possible check the facts before doing a 31 page report.
