From the North Warwickshire East & North Safer Neighbourhoods Teams
Whilst on patrol in Atherstone town centre on Tuesday 09 February PCSO 6210 Dan Hoskin and PCSO 6231 Ashley Wynder spotted several youths in the council car park off Long Street. Upon arrival it became clear to the PCSOs that the youths were responsible for a large amount of litter that had been scattered across the car park. The youth's details were taken by the PCSOs, and made to clear the litter up. The youths were given advise about their behaviour and sent on their way.
In an unrelated incident in Polesworth, the bottle bank, which is on the Abbey Green car park was tipped up and many of the bottles were then thrown and smashed across the car park. On the same evening an individual was stopped and spoken to by PCSO 6021 Louise Moore, who during the encounter filled in a P.A.C.E.1 form. On reviewing the CCTV from the Abbey Green car park, which belongs to the Polesworth Parish Council, the description of the offender who had vandalised the bottle bank fitted the that of the person stopped earlier by PCSO Moore. Once the identity of the individual had been established a visit to their home address was made. After being spoken to by officers the offender openly admitted vandalising the bottle bank and littering the car park. The offender involved was dealt with accordingly by PC 382 Leon Carter.
Sergeant Roger Fildes at Atherstone Police Station said, "These are both superb results for the Safer Neighbourhood Teams, and with regards to the second incident, shows how by working together, local Parish Councils and the Warwickshire Police are cutting down on anti-social behaviour in the area."
