John Laing and Warwickshire County Council have today announced the extension of free parking at Coleshill Parkway train station.
John Laing and Warwickshire County Council have today announced the extension of free parking at Coleshill Parkway train station, following the success of a 3 month trial to increase users of the facility.
The free parking offer, which was launched last December, is part of a broader campaign currently being run by the station's owners, John Laing, which aims to raise awareness and usage of the station. During the offer's 3 month trial period that finished in March, the number of cars in the car park increased by 50%.
Coleshill Parkway was opened in 2007 and was delivered and is operated through a partnership between Warwickshire County Council and John Laing. It is served by direct half-hourly train services to Birmingham New Street in around 16 minutes, Leicester in 40 minutes and London in around 2 hours.
Local bus services also interchange at Coleshill Parkway providing connections to and from Birmingham International Airport & National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in around 18 minutes, and into most other local conurbations.
Visitors wanting to use the station's free parking facilities need to download a parking pass from the Coleshill Parkway website - www.coleshillparkway.co.uk - where they can also find out train times and fares, bus connections and traffic updates for the local area.
Ian Walters, John Laing Rail Development Manager and director of the company that owns Coleshill Parkway, said: "The cost of travel matters to people, and making parking free is something we are hoping will convince people to leave their cars behind and continue their journey by train - and of course, it's a greener way to travel."
Councillor Peter Fowler, portfolio holder for economic development with Warwickshire County Council, said: "We are grateful to John Laing for continuing the free parking arrangement at Coleshill Parkway. As they say, it will help to encourage train travel, which is an integral part of the council's strategy to protect the environment.
"Furthermore, it makes Coleshill more accessible to major cities, and vice versa, and this can only be good news for economic opportunities for businesses and residents in the area."
