Should now have landed on your mat. I hope you've survived the shock. Not of how much they are but how little we get in return for so much.
The bill also contains a delusional letter from Collin Hayfield proving that he has little knowledge of how his council performs. Bragging of building new council houses when they can't maintain the borough as is. Listing their achievement in the decent homes standard as if it is some sort of accomplishment. Maybe Colin should inspect some of the 'decent' work and he'll see its cowboy jobs done by cutting corners with poor quality workmanship and second's materials. Cheap baths that bend so that the legs break through, distorted toilets, blemished sinks. Odd kitchen units, one not replaced out of a whole kitchen. Kitchen units with chips, dents, gaps. Floors with more waves than the sea, doors that don't close, decorations unfinished. If this was a one off it may be acceptable but when most of a street feels the same then something is clearly wrong.
Its ignored, nothing is done. There's nothing decent about our home standards. As council house tenants we have to make the best of it that we can. Some have even gone to B&Q and finished off their kitchens with matching but slightly lighter units. They have no choice in this as the councils supplier will not supply directly to the public and the council will not allow us to buy through the council.
Lets look at some other things in the town.
Flower beds. The flower beds around Woolpack way car park haven't been dug in 15 years at least, only the most rugged plants survive in Northwarwickshire. The only bedding that has been planted has been planted by the civic society. The town centre planters bought and planted by the town council, planted by the councillors them selves in the past to save us money.
Christmas lights were payed for by us and the town council, not the borough. Its been over ten years since the borough paid for street decorations.
Special events, dickens night, carnival, summer in the square, car show, all privately put on by volunteers but sponsored by a small donation from the town council.
cemetery maintained by the town council.
All of the things that a borough council does in a larger town are achieved here in Atherstone by private individuals and the town council.
I wonder if Collin Hayfield can explain what our money does go on that is also value for money.
If this was just a
