Hi, I used to live in Atherstone for much of the 50s, I went to the Junior school and High school.
The reason for this message is to see if anyone remembers the water taste of the 50s and those water tanks that many people had before the 'new' system was introduced. I imagine that all of the water tanks have gone, and all of you gardeners wish you had kept them in the droughts.
I especially remember the 'Outwoods' and was usually found there after school, either bird nesting, sliding down the 'Dubs' on cardboard form the shop on coleshill road, or sledging in the winter. I'm afraid time and Golfers have taken their toll of that most wonderful of wildlife sanctuaruaries. Before Golfers ruled, we could play golf, cricket, and simply mess about, until the shout of "four" where me moved out of their way till the had passed by.
