Changes to front office services at Atherstone Police Station
Warwickshire Police is changing the way it delivers its front office services in Atherstone.
On 4 April 2011, the force is teaming up with Warwickshire County Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council to provide the services currently available from the front office at Atherstone Police Station at the Warwickshire Direct facility located in Warwickshire Direct at North Warwickshire Borugh Council on South Street.
The move follows successful schemes in Warwick and Alcester, where services are now available from Warwickshire Direct at Shire Hall and Globe House where members of the public can now access a wider range of services under one roof.
From 4 April 2011, the services will include those currently offered at Atherstone front office such as reporting crime and anti-social behaviour incidents and lost and found property enquiries.
Supt Adrian McGee, Head of Customer Contact at Warwickshire Police said: “Warwickshire Police has reviewed all its policing services and the facilities required to support them. This includes front offices at police stations. When we measured the demand for Atherstone front office services we found it only received a daily average of 11 visitors during a day.
“These changes enables us to make better use of our resources and thus provide a more effective and efficient service to the public and we welcome this opportunity to team up with Warwickshire County Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council to offer this kind of service in Atherstone and feel sure that the local community will benefit.
“The public are reminded that all members of the force remain committed to protecting communities from harm and will not be distracted from this need by the process of change. We will continue to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in Warwickshire, both on the roads or as a result of crime, and reduce burglary of homes and vehicle crime.
“Warwickshire Police is committed to dealing with every enquiry by delivering the right service, first time and providing local people better access to facilities when they need them most."
At present our Safer Neighbourhood Teams operate out of Atherstone Police Station and work is ongoing to identify and then relocate to a new Safer Neighbourhood Office within the town. This facility will enable teams to book in and off, pick up equipment and vehicles and then go out into the community where they are needed most.
Safer Neighbourhood Teams will work with the local community and partners to identify and solve issues of concern and tackle those who cause the most harm in Atherstone.
At this time the police station will remain an operational base until the Safer Neighbourhood Teams move out when the station will be closed, at a date still to be determined.
Borough council staff will receive training from experienced police staff before the move takes place and will be given ongoing support.
