Do you use tea light candles, the small stuby candles in the foil cups If so do you use them without holders? If so your one of the thousands of people that are putting their life at risk by doing so. They aren't designed to be used without being in a heat resistant holder. People are burned, set on fire and buildings set on fire by these candles through incorrect use. One man in a Newcastle pub was badly burned when his clothes were set on fire by a tea light on a drinking shelf. Later on, same pub same circumstances, a girl had her hair set on fire . Cyndy Harper's son Michael Miller was one of two firefighters killed in a fire in a high rise flat in Stevenage, Hertfordshire in February 2005. An unattended tealight placed directly on top of a television was blamed for the fatal fire. Tea lights can melt through plastic tv's set top boxes and computers in fact anything plastic. Tests done with tea lights placed directly on top of tv sets showed that within 45 minutes the candles can melt through the casing spilling molten wax and setting fire to the tv which burns with a thick black smoke. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/7287721.stmTea light holders are cheap enough, is it worth the risk for a few extra pennies, plus they're a lot more attractive that a foil cup.
