A MULTI-MILLION pound extension to one of Burton’s shopping centres has been recommended for approval. The planning application for a major extension to Coopers Square is one step closer to being passed. It has been recommended for the goahead in a report filed by one of East Staffordshire Borough Council’s planning officers, Michael Brown. The application and report will now go before the planning committee on Monday night and looks set to get the official green light. The mammoth extension would create 200 new jobs and feature 11 two-storey shops, a major department store and a new rooftop car park. It is proposed the rooftop car park would be located on the new extension and will be accessed from the current rooftop car park above BHS — accessed from New Street. The existing car park would be realigned and resurfaced to create a more userfriendly environment. Thirty per cent of the car park would have to be given up to make way for the development, reducing 758 parking bays to 657. www.burtonmail.co.uk/News/Planners-to-recommend-shopping-centre-approval-12102011.htm
