Credit Crunch at Midland Bank.
A JCB style elevating digger has been to used by an armed gang to break into the Midland Bank, Long Street, Atherstone. The 'digger' was stolen from a Bespoke Design company in the area and was driven through the rear gates on Ratcliffe Street to the Bank car park. It was then used to ram the rear of the building which has reinforced glass and security bars demolishing most of the rear of the building.
Non of the bank staff were hurt as the room was empty at the time of the indecent, which happened at approximately 1pm. The gang armed with a hand gun forced a woman and child out of a silver Vauxhall Corsa before making their get away in it. A blue BMW 3 series stolen from the Birmingham area yesterday was also used by the gang.
Forensics were still collecting evidence late into the afternoon as surveyors turned up to asses the damage and decide how to make the building safe for the night.
