I've been asked to post this THESE ARE NOT WRITTEN BY MY HAND.
Here We Go Again.....
SAY NO TO THE 1000 HOUR PHARMACY AT RATCLIFFE RD SURGERY.
UPDATE.
The G>P Practice at Ratcliffe Road Surgery wants to open a 100 hour a week pharmacy right by people's homes. This will be open from 7am to 10.00 pm.
In compliance with its contract, the pharmacy must be able to dispense drugs includinge methadone ( a heroine substitute ) and sell pharmacy medicines over the counter for minor ailments. The pharmacy will have a needle + syringe exchange programme, which may attract more drug addicts to the area.
Would patients not benefit more from reduced waiting times and improved access to see a doctor, rather than have just another pharmacy? Would it therefore not make more sense to have more consultation rooms for doctors to use, so benefiting the patients, but NO this be for the doctors commercial gain.
And guess what - they want some of your park, to increase the size of the Surgery car park, to accommodate this new business venture!
So what impact would this new pharmacy have?
IMPACT ON AMENITY OF LOCAL RESIDENTS
1.Traffic and Parking
-Ratcliffe Road would suffer from additional congestion - impact especially on residents, college users and those driving to the early learning centre, due to the increased traffic from the new visitors to the pharmacy, from deliveries to the pharmacy and from patients parking for longer than currently, while they wait to collect their prescriptions.
- additional parking in Ratcliffe Road, would put more pressure on the on-street parking spaces which are already in short supply
- additional traffic would create a dangerous vehicle crossing
- potential impact of traffic congestion on fire station vehicles, if fire engines cannot pass due to people waiting or returning to collect medicines.
2. Hours of Operation and Impact on Living Conditions
- having a late night pharmacy in this secluded neighborhood (open 100 hours each week, including late into the evenings) could increase anti social behavior and crime and adversely affect safety of local people
- litter, light pollution and noise pollution may increase
3. Impact on Character of the Area
- potential impact on the children from college and early learning centre, due needle and syringe exchange,
- this proposal would be a gross over development of the land
- the proposed development would lead to a substantial loss of green space, which would have a negative impact on the character of the area, if part of the park were taken to accommodate the additional cars.
- this would cause unacceptable material harm to the living conditions of nearby residential occupants
- the residential location is not suitable for commercial operations
- the location of proposed pharmacy would result in a cramped form of development
IMPACT ON LONG STREET[/u]
- We already have three pharmacies on Long Street (one being a late night one), which would suffer in viability terms and could even become redundant due to loss of trade,
-the potential closure of nearby pharmacies has significant implications to local employment levels and social issues
- the passing footfall to other retailers in the commercial centre would see a significant drop, due to people not using Long Street Chemists therefore reducing opportunity to shop in the town centre. This could be tragic for an already suffering retailer, leading to more empty units - a ghost town
The fact that the NHS has granted the pharmacy license has no basis to support the application in planning terms. The NHS is obliged to grant the license, subject to the pharmacy opening 100 hours per week.
If the planning department allows these outrageous hours of opening, it would completely change the dynamics of the whole area. The existing three pharmacies collect a large number of prescriptions direct from the surgery which requires just one or two visits to the surgery. The patients then collect their medication direct from the town centre pharmacies, which has the effect of directing patients to LONG STREET and supporting trade of the local businesses there. If planning is granted then all these patients will go to the new pharmacy at RATCLIFFE ROAD.
It could not be more clearer that the local people and businesses will not benefit from this new pharmacy.
Therefore. if you want this planning application to be rejected please let yourself be heard by the planning department at the council.
Please feel free to use any of the above wording.
DEADLINE FOR OBJECTION IS 06/11/12
PLEASE ACT NOW BEFORE ITS TOO LATE
