Get walking boots on in Atherstone call Written byBY LISA BUCKLEY BUDDING heritage champions are being encouraged to get their walking boots on. Members of the Friends of Atherstone Heritage have been working with the Volunteer Centre North Warwickshire to put together a booklet called ‘The Yards of Atherstone’. Inside there is information for people to do their very own guided tour of using a map which highlights a regular and an extended walk. The piece of work marks the end of the Yards and Cottage of Industry project which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery for the past few years. Spokesperson Lorna Dirveiks said: “The idea for the booklet came about after the Yards project was extended. “It occurred to members of the group, who put together the Yards book, that while they were doing their research there were many gates and doors in the town which were once entrances to the yards. These are still very much in use today.†The group who meet every Friday managed to map the doors out and take photos of them for the new booklet which contains a route as well as information about each yard. Both walks start at the leisure centre. Copies of the free booklet are available from the volunteer centre in Long Street as well as local libraries and community hubs. www.nuneaton-news.co.uk/News/Get-walking-boots-on-in-Atherstone-call-20130213172104.htm
