Looks likely that Virgin Media have decided to connect up the North side of Atherstone about 15 years after the south side was connected up. Fitjitsu will be installing cables on behalf of Virgin Media. The town was originally split between the cable company that supplied Tamworth, which fitted and completed the south side of the town, called Comtel, and the company that supplied Nuneaton, called Telecential. Telecential got as far as Mancetter but never completed the work to Atherstone before Comtel bought them out. Comtel were bought out cabletel which became NTL. NTL merged with Telewest. NTL Telewest merged with Virgin Mobile, which then became Virgin Media.
Virgin Media are currently under a take over bid by Liberty Global subject to shareholders agreement,
