The new Staffordshire Hoard finds will be returning to the West Midlands after a “fantastic†donation.
A campaign was launched to raise the necessary £57,395 – with the target reached in just a week after a jewellery firm stumped up the money.
London-based Wartski, the firm which made the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding ring, made the donation to ensure the items would stay in the region they were found.
Archaeologists from Staffordshire County Council unearthed the latest Anglo-Saxon finds in November 2012 after the Hammerwich field where the original items were found was ploughed.
But there were fears that the artefacts may not be able to go on display locally if the money could not be raised.
“The news that the target has been met so quickly means that the new pieces can be brought back to the region where they belong,†said Staffordshire County Council leader Philip Atkins.
“It really is a fantastic result and I know the people of Staffordshire will want to thank the fund donors and be delighted that the Staffordshire Hoard is being kept together.
“Hopefully the newly found pieces will be on display in our region very soon.â€
The donation means that the Staffordshire Hoard will be reunited with the 81 newly-discoverd items.
Donations made by members of the public will now go towards covering the costs of conservation, research and displaying the artefacts.
The original Staffordshire Hoard finds were valued at more than £3.2million.
