Lichfield District Council have reiterated their opposition to HS2.
The high speed rail route was brought back into focus with the Government outlining their commitment to the scheme in the Queen’s Speech.
The announcement in Westminster was welcomed by Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), who described it as “one of the most important opportunities†to bring jobs and economic growth to the region.
But despite being part of the LEP, Lichfield District Council have said their stance on HS2 has not altered.
“While the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership supports the creation of a high speed rail, the District Council still opposes it,†said Cllr Ian Pritchard.
“We believe the negative impact it will have on our district and other regions, plus the disputed business case, does not justify HS2.â€
