Do you think this will cause traffic problems for people from Atherstone that use the A444 to get to Nuneaton ?
A BRAND new takeaway is set to open on a busy Nuneaton road.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s planning committee have given a local businessman permission to turn part of Anker Service Station on Weddington Road into a hot food takeaway.
It will be situated in the current car wash building which will be extended to create the space required for the development.
The takeaway will open from 11am until 11pm, seven days a week but it has not yet been revealed what type of food will be on sale when it is opened to the public.
The application, submitted by Mr Shaan Chaudry, was approved by six of the 11 councillors on the deciding committee, despite a number of objections being made by an Old Hinckley Road resident who said that opening a hot food takeaway would create litter, odour and noise problems in the area and that there would be issues with accessing and egressing the 11 car parking spaces that will be provided, which ‘would in turn lead to people parking on the roadside.
A number of committee members also voiced their concerns that the new takeaway could detract from Nuneaton’s town centre.
Councillor Keith Kondakor was against the application and said: “A hot food takeaway like this will drag people away from the town centre.
“It is the wrong site for it when there are already so many buildings available closer to the centre, we will be left with a complete dead zone at this rate and I don’t want that to happen so I cannot support this.â€
Cllr Bill Sheppard agreed, adding: “I also believe this new takeaway would have a detrimental impact on the town centre, which is already struggling, with a lot of empty shops around. It is not a recognised shopping area and I’m worried that planning officers are telling us to approve this.â€
Planning officers said it was unlikely that the takeaway would have an adverse impact on the town centre.
The applicant had previously planned to turn the Weddington Road car wash into a sandwich bar.
