Dan Spends A Day On The Beat And Welcomes Fall In Crime
August 7th, 2013
Dan Byles, MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, joined local Police on their patrol in Atherstone this week.
Dan gained a first-hand insight into the work of the Safer Neighbourhood Team in Atherstone. He went on patrol with PC Leon Carter and discussed the latest crime figures in North Warwickshire with Sergeant Roger Fildes. The local MP also raised the recent aggravated burglary in Coleshill with the Officers.
Commenting after the patrol Dan said:
"The local police in North Warwickshire are doing a fantastic job in our area. I know that some people are concerned at the recent burglaries in Coleshill, but crime overall has fallen significantly this year in North Warwickshire, and by 10% across the country since the general election".
In North Warwickshire for the year to date crime has fallen across the constituency in each of the four areas. In the North it is down by 18.6%, in the East by 14.6%, the West 21.6% and in the South 19.4%.
Dan described his day with the police team as "fascinating" and was able spend time with Officers, PCSOs and Police Specials. The day also highlighted the relationship and time spent between the local force and Atherstone's shopkeepers.
Speaking about the recent aggravated burglary incident in Coleshill Dan said:
"Amongst the community we were shocked to hear about this crime and I have been communicating with local officers about the on going investigation. Although I cannot discuss the details I can confirm that the police are taking it very seriously and stressed that it is an unusual incident in our area. Overall in North Warwickshire I am very pleased that the most up-to-date crime figures continue to be reassuring."
