Hallo monosynth...what a name. I had a sort of friend at school named Cynthia. The teacher called her 'Monocynth' She hardly ever spoke but when she did it was in ' monotone'She was asked why she didn't speak. She said she had nothing to say ! Fair enough but she was a bit creepy. I'm glad rebbonk is still around. When wol was init's decline he emailed every day. He seems very active on the Coventry site. Bed now ---I have a family day her tomorrow with about 23 people coming. My daughter organised it but now ,poor girl she has the flu.

Thanks Lizadaw, it is nice to meet up again. I'll have to get Madhatter to change my name to something easier , ' I only thought of monosynth on the spur of the moment when I first joined' but perhaps I'll changed it to Marie . If thats ok with Madhatter. I found Rebbonk on the Coventry Message Board, if its ok to mention here. icserver.no-ip.biz/coventry/viewforum.php?f=29Perhaps he will join. You change that yourself by going into your profile, the button is at the top. I can change it but you need to use when you next log in if its changed

What are the old factory buildings behind the pub in the market place. You can also see them from the entries behind the shops opposite the co-op in Long St. I took some wonderful photos of them. They were Hatton Hat factory, some lovely architecture. Some are being turned into flats, others are being demolished. Strangely I haven't really taken any photographs of them, I forget that its happening. Wish I could forget about the development on wainwrights site, its so noisy

I cant remember where Wainwrights is. do you remember Balls hat factory? The owner lived in Grendon in a place which is now -I think - a nursing home. When I was a very little girl I remember asking someone who worked there how felt was made. He said, all the workers had a piece of unfelted wool in each of their shoes and they walked it flat. I used to watch them walkingto see if they hobbled.
I also remember clearly the awful conditions the hat felters worked in. Ankle deep in water even with a duckboard under their feet. That was in 'something' and Everitts which stretched across.from North st to Long street. We used to take a sneaky short cut through on the way to school, on the pretext of taking someones 'snap' to them.

Sorry for keep quoting the previous post but I'm quoting so i can see and read what i'm replying to as i do so. Balls I dont remember. but wainrights was the garage on the hollow. Vero and everitts. but i remember the factory between North Street and Long Street as being Denham and Hargreaves or were they next to each other. They've just demolished today the last building on the wainwrights site that used to be part of the factory. A tanning factory i think. There's a stream runs underneath the car show room that the factory used

I was an evacuee in Atherstone and the last but one to leave, my sister was the last.We lived there for 5 and half years. Could tell lots of tales about wartime Atherstone. I wonder if anyone on this site remembers the evacuees, I'd love to know.

No It won't allow me. Does anyone answer on this site. Is anyone interested except MADDHATTER? and potentially me) Shame ! I wonder why. It' has occurred to me that the reasons I was told by the owners of the demised booktown's bookshops ( why they closed)were true.

There's no one out here in forum land but us. Everyone else is on facebook swapping pictures of meaningful quotes. The upload feature was a computer geeks hack add on that used a general account, I assume its no longer supported. I only knew because you told me about it. The probably aren't bothering with it because proboards are bringing new software out

One book town shop closed because of ill health, another closed because the owner retired to go pole dancing around the world ! The other closed cos he's a miserable git and turned his customers away. They'd deny that no doubt lol

I admire your tenacity - hanging in there. I shall continue to watch hoping that someone is interested. POle dancing around the world sounds a good option . Like a book I've just bought. 'Roumd Ireland with a Fridge' Of course they've all gone to facebook...like sheep. They don't want anything more personal. It's a great pity. I used to have the Telegraph and sometimes the Nuneaton papers, but they ar erags now
