TO CONTINUE -I lost the text. I do believe that if more people knew about this site they would join in. How to advertise i don't know. I wouldn't think the local a forementioned rags would publicise it, altho' it may be worth a try. Word of mouth may help. Has anyone heard about the little advertised 'Boudicca Trail' due to begin next yearfrom Mancetter. Sign boards are being planned at this moment. Although the title may have changed (again) by now. If so what do you think?

never heard of it. My brothers pub used to be bodaceas. weird spelling but thats Atherstone for you. bugga gave away my anonymity now, I'm no longer a cartoon character name, they all know who i am. How do you know about that ? mind you if its the council doing it I'll purposely be kept out of it. I helped plan the Arden trail and helped chose a design for Atherstones sculpture, the project manager showed an interest in me, then chose to get back with her boyfriend so accused me of stalking to try to hide the fact she'd shown an interest. I got warnings off the council for my 'behavior' and they actually pulled back the email invite to the launch . I wasn't aware you could pull back an email once sent but you can. I did start a full wiki article on the building of the route, planning, sculpture meetings, carving meetings etc but when they excluded me the project was lost. I was meant to get photos of them being created, the foundry , the stone mason working on them, delivery by crane etc. Would have been a great compliment to the main site. They of course lie and deny the harassment, prejudice and slander. But that's probably why I don't know about it.

(I dont know who you are , I'm not much of a sherlock though.) I believe this was through the Atherstone Civic society.and they had a £12,000 lottery grant.for the first phase. Can't tell you how I know -) The sign boards are being made right now. I can never understand why these things are not publicised more. How many people in Atherstone-or even Mancetter know.? It's supposed to be a major thing. It's to publicise the area and bring in more visitors. I get cynical too. probably it's jobs(lottery money) for the selected boys) with a few signs to show for it which will go into oblivion within a few years. I hope it's not how it will be but I've seen it happen before -up in Scotland- Mancetter has a golden past history and some of it unique which could be exploited to bring wealth to the area if it was done properly. But as we were once told by Warwick council-'theres nowt of value in North Warwickshire
However --look for the signs.

Probably cos they never spend any money in North Warwickshire, neither do the Borough Council. The only support Atherstone has ever gotten apart from the bodged Arden Trail has been from Town Council and even that is a half measure. As I keep saying everything for the community is done by the community here.

I see WOL has restarted and hopefully will be there fora few years. You should combine altho' for the past few weeks I've been back in AOL I can't understand why you think it works against you, as apart from yourself no-one has replied to much You're welcome here but it is very quiet. I can understand why wil closed it. Facebook seems to have taken most people. Will did have the advantage of being a county wide site though and this is just northern Warwickshire. Advantage of this of course are that there are very few running costs compared to WOL. Maybe one day his interest will be rekindled and he'll re start it and instead of working against each other we'll join forces.

According to our environmental health dep people aren't supposed to be making a noise before 8, according to the law before 7 I think it was so waking people up at that hour is illegal.

The people that go there never post here and I won't post there because I'm not allowed to link to here. This forum is about Atherstone and North Warwickshire, that is about Warwickshire and mainly south Warwickshire, Stratford, Warwick Leaminghton. I know nothing about them and therefore can't comment. I am looking for someone to help me build my Atherstone website up though and host it. Whilst I've been trying to get help someone else has built a mediocre one.But you need to be passionate about your subject if you're going to make a web site for it. You need to know it . In the south that was tha advantage that will had, he was passionate about the area . He knew about it.

I SYMPATHISE WITH YOU. i DONT LIVE IN YOUR AREA BUT HAD HAPPY MEMORIES OF LIVING THERE IN THE LONG PAST. In the meantime if I may I'LL HANG ON AND HOPE YOU GET SOMEONE AS KEEN AS YOURSELF to run the site. I would be hopeless -no technical knowledge--and so admire the people who are so passionate. I know the feeling. I do voluntary teaching every week. When I was off for a couple of months in 2011 I scouted around to get someone to take over for a while but when they found it was unpaid no-one was interested. I obviously asked the wrong people as I know there are some out there who would have helped. However my class rallied and all helped each other 'til I was on my feet again, even to the extent later of setting up a rota to take me and bring me home. How good is that ! By the way the Boadicca trail sign boards will be going up this year.Havent seen the designs yet but I keep trying to poke my nose in. What happened to the Cottage Piece along the main road to Mancetta? I tried to go the other week and the road has been cut off. I have great memories of paddling there until I was told there were leeches. Also the old vicarage along church walk has gone and it's an estate now. There was the most beautiful mulberry tree there.I remember being sent home from South street school -to wash off the stains from my hands and arms. They had to wear off so the teacher made me sit right at the back of the class 'til they'd gone which took a week. I didn't mind. I loved almost every day of my 5 years in Atherstone as a child. I was so free.

Cottage piece goes from Ratcliffe Road to the foot bridge then turns in to a public right of way which goes under the bridge and along the bypass. It wasn't maintained and highways blocked it off with a crash barrier. The road from Ratcliffe road is bollarded to stop cars being taken down there to be burned out. It doesn't go near the river. Cottage piece farm was I believe where BHS is and you can still get through. You can walk the river on the Atherstone side quite legally from Ratcliffe Road to the Mancetter Roundabout or in to Witherley. It is one of the towns best countryside spots and is under used. but quiet because of it. They did try to get a grant to turn it into a nature park but they got refused. They (NWBC) will try again in the future. They are doing a good job over in Coleshill though with the nature reserve. No leeches in the river. People have always bathed in the river and always will.
The old vicarage is still there but its flats . You can go up to the building. What you mean was the big hall. Its gate is on the corner of Convent Lane. It got sold off piecemeal over the years to build houses at the back and eventually the whole lot was sold. There's about 30 houses around it now of varying sizes from large detached to bed sits and the hall is flats. A sad end. I think there's only one large house on south Street now thats private. There's another thats council owned. A couple of new ones hidden from the road that aren't as big. You just dont get the BIG old houses any more. Other than that there's Grendon Lodge which hopefully will be safe.

Did you mean the Grendon Lodge on the main road towards Baddesley ensor.? When I was a child I went there-it was very grand- with my foster parents. They- the people at the lodge -owned Ball's Hat factory I mentioned before, which was at the other end of Station Street going towards the station.and maybe others.
a STRANGE COINCIDENCE--When I was younger and a nurse. I worked for a time at a hospital near Criccieth North Wales. One day I went to a local dance and got talking to someone from Atherstone-- one of the Lunn family who were then a posh family' in Atherstone. I kept in touch for years.
